The 7th meeting of the Local Action Group was successfully held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Youth Center of the Municipality of Heraklion. The aim of the meeting was to discuss and comment on the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) before it is submitted to the next Transnational Meeting in Dubrovnik, Croatia, at the end of September 2025. Issues were raised concerning the identity of the city, the social risks involved in accepting or rejecting digital nomads, development issues such as rural housing, and the new urban development action plan. The discussion concluded with a commitment by the local action group to continue to play an active role in other key issues affecting the municipality.
The Municipality of Heraklion is the only municipality in Greece participating in the European program entitled “Remote and Hybrid Work for Thriving Cities – REMOTE IT” within the framework of URBACT IV.
This program, known as “Remote-IT,” will study the new challenges cities face in relation to the future of hybrid work.
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the transformation of how work is organized, with hybrid and remote working models significantly affecting the lives of citizens, as well as the organizational culture of companies and large employers (including public sector bodies).
The Remote-IT program seeks to form a diverse partnership of cities in order to collaboratively explore the multiple aspects of this emerging topic of hybrid and remote working models.
The Deputy Mayor for Development Planning & Digital Transformation, Mr. Anastasios Tsatsakis, welcomed everyone to the 7th meeting of the Local Action Group for the Municipality of Heraklion. The meeting was coordinated by the Director of Planning, Organisation & Information Technology, Ms. Zacharena Drosou, and Professor of the Department of Business Administration and Tourism, Dr. Markos Kourgiantakis, who publicly thanked all members of the local action team for their contribution since the beginning of the project.
