The Municipality of Heraklion is the only Municipality in Greece participating in the European Program “Remote and Hybrid Work for Thriving Cities – REMOTE-IT”, which is implemented within the framework of URBACT IV.
The program examines the new challenges and opportunities emerging for cities through the rapid spread of hybrid and remote work, a phenomenon that has significantly accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Changes in work organization patterns have profoundly affected not only the daily lives of citizens, but also the organizational culture of businesses and public sector entities. In this context, the REMOTE-IT program brings together a diverse partnership of European cities, aiming to exchange experiences and develop integrated strategies for the sustainable management of the new reality of work.
The 8th Meeting of the Urbact Local Group of the Municipality of Heraklion was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Youth Center.
During the meeting, the Integrated Action Plan of the Municipality was presented, which had previously been presented at the 9th Transnational Meeting of the program in Dubrovnik (Croatia).
The presentation was made by the Director of Programming, Planning and ICT of the Municipality of Heraklion, Ms. Zacharenia Drosou, and the Professor of the Department of Business Administration and Tourism of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, Dr. Markos Kourgiantakis.
The Urbact Local Group expressed its enthusiasm and satisfaction with the outcome of the Action Plan, stating its willingness to continue cooperation both for its implementation and for its contribution to future initiatives of the Municipality that concern critical issues of local development and innovation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Zacharenia Drosou and Dr. Markos Kourgiantakis extended a warm welcome to the members of the Local Action Group, publicly expressing their thanks for their continuous and substantial contribution since the beginning of the project.
They also stressed the importance of continuing cooperation in the future, within the framework of the common goals for a smart, resilient and sustainable Municipality of Heraklion.
The coordination of the Urbact Local Group meeting was carried out by the Director of Programming , Planning and ICT Ms. Zacharenia Drosou, the Deputy Head of the Department of European Programs, Mr. Tsakmopoulos Panagiotis and the Professor and President of the Department of Business Administration and Tourism of ELMEPA, Dr. Markos Kourgiantakis.
The European Program “Remote and Hybrid Work for Thriving Cities – REMOTE-IT” is implemented by the Programming , Planning and ICT Directorate of the Municipality of Heraklion with its competent European Programs Department.
