Remote-IT Remote and hybrid work for thriving cities

The REMOTE-IT network addresses the new challenges facing cities in relation to the future of work. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the transformation around the way work is organised with hybrid and remote working models having a significant impact on the lives of citizens as well as the organisational culture of large employers (public/private).

The two-day workshop for the project entitled “Remote and Hybrid work for Thriving Cities” with the acronym “REMOTE IT” in the framework of the wider European URBACT IV Programme was successfully completed. The meeting was attended by URBACT Lead Expert Anamaria Vrabie, Natasa Miric Coordinator and Barbara Damić Communication Manager from the Lead Partner from Dubrovnic, members of the Project Team of the Municipality of Heraklion, the Project Manager, Director of Planning, Organisation and Information Technology Ms. Zacharenia Drossou, the Head of Finance, Head of the Department of European Programmes Mr. Panagiotis Tsakmopoulos and the Coordinator of the Urbact Local Group (ULG), President of the Department of Business Administration of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, Professor Mr. Markos Kourgiantakis.

The Programme is implemented by the Planning Department of the Municipality of Heraklion with its competent Department of European Programmes. Within the framework of the two-day meeting, site visits were carried out at the Hellenic Mediterranean University – Innovation Hub, at FORTH, at the Cultural Centre of Heraklion, at the Hub of the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce, as places that host scientists and institutions from abroad and places that could be characterized as “co-working spaces”.

This project, acronymed “Remote-IT”, will study the new challenges facing cities in relation to the future of work and the new form of tourism for digital nomads.

The Remote-IT project seeks to form a diverse partnership of cities in order to be able to study, in collaboration, the multiple aspects of this emerging issue with hybrid and remote working models.
